OBJECTIVE: The present lectures are designed to cater the needs of B.Sc. and M.Sc. students of Microbiology, Biotechnology and Pharmacy. The basic concepts of Immunology such as antigen, antibody, Serological Reactions, hypersensitivity are discussed concisely for better understanding of the students and form a source material to the teachers. – Immunohematology, Autoimmune disease, Immunodeficiency, Transplantation immunology and Tumor immunology are also covered precisely. The subject matter is written in simple language keeping in view of student’s standard and very well illustrated with clear diagrams. A question bank is given at the end of each chapter.
SCOPE AND OPPORTUNITY: We are fully conscious of the fact that science subject is never final and it changes with more and more studies. We hope that students find this approach to be logical and useful. I have benefited enormously from my own experience of teaching students, both of microbiology and biotechnology. We earnestly request the students and teachers alike for their constructive criticism and valuable suggestions, which will help to make the lectures perfect and acceptable to one and all, and serve the student community for long time to come. Most of all I hope that atleast some students will be fascinated by this subject, and will see this text as their first step on the road to Immunology related career. Every effort is made to make the subject matter simple. The language written is lucid supported by clear diagrams. The necessary information is precised in tabular form. The question bank is given at the end of every chapter for self evaluation and to learn the subject perceptibility.
