MUSHROOM CULTIVATION TECHNOLOGY (DURATION: 4:30 HRS)
Agro industrial residues which are rich in nutrients like carbon, nitrogen, minerals and biomass residues are abundantly produced in all over India. These agricultural residues can be effectively used as substrate for Mushroom production owing to economical feasibility and availability, as it can help in solving agricultural waste utilization and management problems which may be caused by their disposal and can be developed as the source of income and nutrition for the sustainable livelihood.
Therefore, for better utilization of agro industrial wastes, for mushroom production, to make year round availability to mushroom and making money by recycling waste, the department of Microbiology and Bioinformatics, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Vishwavidyalaya, Bilaspur has proposed the online certificate course in Mushroom Cultivation Technology
OBJECTIVE: To train learners for production of mushrooms, managing mushroom pests and diseases and post harvest care and processing of mushrooms.
SCOPE AND OPPORTUNITY: Cottage industry for mushrooms can be started with limited resources and employment can be created for self and others. Income could be generated by spawn production, mushroom cultivation, mushroom processing and recycling agricultural wastes.
BIOCOMPOST PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY ( DURATION: 4 HRS)
Bio-compost is a natural fertilizer, a final product of composting, produced by transformation of organic material through biological decomposition and stabilization into a soil-like material, which is stable and free of pathogens and can be beneficially applied to land. Biocompost making or Composting is essentially a microbiological decomposition of organic residues collected from rural area (rural compost) or urban area (urban compost). The potential of composting to turn on-farm waste materials into a farm resource makes it an attractive proposition. Composting offers several benefits such as enhanced soil fertility and soil health – thereby increased agricultural productivity, improved soil biodiversity, reduced ecological risks and a better environment.
OBJECTIVE: To train learners for bioconversion of organic waste into compost.
SCOPE AND OPPORTUNITY: Entrepreneurship in organic farming using homemade compost.
BACTERIAL BIOFRTILIZER AND BIOCONTROL (DURATION 4: 30HRS)
Universal revolutionary movement in the field of agriculture is an Organic farming. This implies a sustainable option where cheap and eco-friendly bio-fertilizers and bio-control agents are identified from nature, mass produced and bio formulated. A biofertilizer and biocontrol agents are substances which contains various micro organisms such as bacteria, algae and fungi, when applied to seeds, plant surfaces, or soil, colonize the rhizosphere or the interior of the plant and promotes growth by increasing the supply or availability of primary nutrients to the host plant and biologically control the population of pathogenic microorganisms from environment. The present day challenge is to attain sustainable agriculture without damaging the environment which can be obtained by the use of biofertilizers and biocontrol agents.
OBJECTIVE: To train learners in technology for isolation, mass production and bioformulation of soil bacteria tha play important role in mineral cycling and biocontrol
SCOPE AND OPPORTUNITY: To develop sustainable technology for bioformulation of bacterial bio-fertilizar and bio-control agent
ENZYME TECHNOLOGY (DURATION: 4:30 HRS)
Now a days, enzymes are the major emerging tools which find industrial application in formation of plethora of economically important products.
The research in Microbial technology is based on the framework of enzymology. It is very essential to update the principles and practices in enzymology for successful implementation of Microbial technology. The course Enzyme Technology focuses on the processes, methodologies, reactions, and approaches involved in the basic biochemistry of enzymes. This curriculum is designed to give students an understanding of the physical, chemical and kinetic properties of enzymes. Purification, characterization and quantitative evaluation of the influence of parameters such as concentrations of substrate and enzyme, pH, temperature and inhibitors on activity are stressed. Isolation and production of some industrially important enzymes selected from among enzymes of importance to food science, nutrition, and to the biological sciences.
OBJECTIVE: This course provides the theory and knowledge relevant to the enzymology principles including fundamental properties of enzymes, enzyme catalytic mechanisms and enzyme kinetics. Techniques employed in enzymes purification and characterization are also emphasized in this course. Students will also be introduced to the theory as well as applications of enzyme technology in food, medical, and household industries. Finally this course serves to provide an awareness of the current and possible future applications of enzyme technologies. This course also emphasizes on the development of attitude and capability of the students to work in a group and gather information on the related field for life long learning.
SCOPE AND OPPORTUNITY: Excellent scope for students persuing their career in enzyme linked Research field , for updation of mid term scientists from Basic biology field, added knowledge pack for PG students.
